dont-missI think I love music more than the average person.  I listen to it all day long. If it is a choice between movie, television or music, I’d take music every time.

But the people who make music, and trust me I’ve been around them my entire life, are nutters.

Today, or rather last night, Steven Tyler announced that he wasn’t quitting Aerosmith after-all. That at least is a sane decision, though everything leading up to it was nuttier than Christmas at Glenn Beck’s house. Tyler may or may not be serious about this but last night he appeared at a Joe Perry solo show and performed what appears to be a conciliatory Walk this Way. For more info on the non Aerosmith breakup, read the Billboard story here.

I’m pretty certain he doesn’t read Ayewonder.com

pdbLast night, by pure happenstance, Christine & I found ourselves at the House of Blues laying witness to the Right Reverend Al Green. Midway through the show, Green called out to the audience “most of you are here to see if Al still has it.” At age 73, he was only half joking but Al still has the 90 mph fastball. He is still engaging, energetic and in great voice. And that voice – WOW. Performing in front of a 13 piece band, Green unabatedly went from hit to hit. The interesting thing for me was that he performed a lot of new songs. Often times when an artist plays their recent material, the audience hasn’t connected with the songs yet. But Green made them all come alive last night. If the Rev comes to your town, go see him. You will not be disappointed.

Just a quick personal note, Christine and I selected Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together as our wedding song 15 years ago. For those past 15 years whenever we hear that song, we drop what we’re doing and dance. There have been numerous occasions where onlookers at Whole Foods or Super Stop & Shop thought they might need to call the men in white coats.

The Internet has birthed a great many wonderful and useful applications. (You might argue blogging isn’t one of them) One of my quirky little Internet diversions is the MacGyverism.

Some background: MacGyver was a television show that aired for 7 years from 1985-1992 starring Richard Dean Anderson. MacGyver, a secret agent, was particularly resourceful in creating bombs, building telescopes and stethoscopes and destroying buildings using nothing but common household items. Popular culture refers to this real life resourcefulness as a MacGyverism.

The Internet is filled with these babies, some real, some fake and some (the majority) stupid. As an example, I saw one recently that showed you how to make fire but it required a match. Duh. While I have yet to come across any telescope building MacGyverisms, I did come across this one that is both clever and handy. It’s especially good at icing down a Smoked Margarita.
