Up until Saturday, I had never heard of The Secret. It is a self-help, motivational melange of products including a DVD, a book and an OnDemand movie. I purchased it OnDemand in error and I am glad I did.
The Secret is the “Law of Attraction”; that like attracts like. The claim by Prime Time Productions is that all successful people through the ages have known about The Secret but that they are bringing it forward to the masses. I am here to tell you that I knew The Secret for almost thirty years but had moved away from it during the last 5 years. My lovely wife has told me not to say anything about my beliefs because it would seem like I joined a cult.
While The Secret may seem like blue smoke and mirrors to some, it really comes down to the power of positive thinking. When someone used to ask me (and my friends can verify this) how I was, my response was always something like this: “never better” or “If I were any better, I’d be twins.” Whether this was true or not, I believed it and they would soon be on board also. My friends used to call me the “luckiest man in America.” And for a long time that was true. Then, I stopped believing good things would happen. I started wishing that bad stuff wouldn’t happen. It’s a slight difference but a powerful one.
I learned The Secret thirty years ago when I was given the Catholic sacrament of last rites just before I was operated on for a brain tumor. After that, I was on the bonus plan and I was grateful for every day that I woke up. Five years ago, I stopped being grateful. I started believing my own press clippings. Good stuff stopped happening in abundance.
Watch this video. It’s two minutes long. You could start your day with it if you choose. If nothing else, it’s a great message. It’s how I am starting my day from now on.
