It is very difficult to write at this time of year. There are constant demands on your time and the last time I looked, there is still only 24 hours in the day. I have been known to stupidly test that before, however.  Lately, I’ve been working on a few projects that have soaked up all of my time. I really haven’t had the time to do much else. That may or may not continue depending on how one of these things works out.  And instead of being vague, I am going to tell you what one of these projects is.

Years ago, I used to be in the music business. I booked concerts from east of the Mississippi from Maine to Florida and I managed a few bands. I was young and it was incredible fun. And it was immensely profitable for a young man. Back all those many years ago, the music business was still sorting itself out. It could be a nefarious business and usually was. I knew that long term it wasn’t for me. Until (maybe) now.

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked by a band if I might consider coming out of retirement to manage them. I couldn’t stifle my laugh. “I’m already married,” I replied. Then I got to thinking. Whenever an opportunity presents itself to me, I always consider it. I look at the pros and cons, the upside and the risk. Sometimes, that assessment can come quickly and other times, it requires more research. This is taking time because personalities are involved and management is about the human condition. A manager must be patient, have the ability to recognize creativity and talent, be organized, be able to take responsibility and make decisions among many other qualities. The band or artist has to realize that they need management and is willing to relinquish the business of the creative process to someone who will look after them and their needs. That is a huge amount of trust.

And that’s where I am. The band I am talking to has accomplished much but hasn’t much to show for it thus far. Most of the band’s attention has been paid to the creative side. And when they have looked after the business side, it’s mostly hit or miss. I am meeting with them again today. And we will take another step in some direction, forward or backward.

Thanks to those who have already voiced their opinion on the product. I value your input. There will be more on this no matter what happens.

While this isn’t your normal AWT, this is what has me wondering these days.

One Week Break

I am up to my eyeballs in projects and none of them will get the attention that they need and deserve if I am here blogging. As a result, I am bringing Aye Wonder to halt for a week. Thanks for your patience. I will see you here next Tuesday for the regular installment of Aye Wonder Tuesday.
