I have added a couple of new pages to Aye Wonder in the past week. One, Golf in Scotland, is very much a work in progress. First of all, there’s a lot more content to come and secondly, I haven’t really sorted how I will present it to you. Yes, it’s not for everyone but golfers thinking about travelling to Scotland may find it to be an invaluable resource. Those not interested can commence yawning now.
☞I love sports. I loved playing and watching but for some reason, I don’t get worked up about the Olympics anymore. I remember as a kid having charts and books and watching every telecast faithfully. Now? It barely registers. I wonder why that is?
☞I find it surprising that given our country’s interest in UFOs, news regarding alien life received minimal news coverage. I mean, the information came from an Apollo astronaut not R.P. McMurphy. Are we to assume Dr. & Astronaut Edgar Mitchell is lying to us or is this yet another cover-up? Am I the only one who thinks these things?
☞Obama isn’t running a great campaign this summer but it’s certainly better than McCain’s. People in the know claim that McCain’s strategy is cooked up every morning and that the team is in disarray. And he’s even in the polls? This election will be closer than one would think.

☞After spending the weekend with 5 children under the age of six and being reminded of time flying by, I thought this is an appropriate Aye Wonder quote of the week:
Fourty is the old age of youth, fifty is the youth of old age. ~Victor Hugo
☞Here’s a question for you. If the music, movie and book industries are in such bad financial shape, why are we seeing more music, more film and more books than ever before? Could it be that the majority of new offerings are from independent producers?
☞I have always liked Paul Weller. I was a Jam fan and loved the sophisto-pop of the Style Council. Weller has continued to plug away for over 3 decades without much notoriety in the U.S.. His new album, the double album 22 Dreams, is one of 2008’s best. In fact, when the critics name the best albums of the decade, I will not be surprised to see this on many lists. The album showcases many of Weller’s genre interests. Here’s one song on the album that I particularly love, Echoes Round the Sun, co-written and played by Noel Gallagher.

☞I think Paul McCartney is losing it. After going through an incredibly acrimonious divorce, McCartney has broken the silence with a love song, My Soul, to his ex, the oft-misspoken Heather Mills. That’s right, a long song. That is all.
☞Cell phones-Cancer what gives? The FDA recently ruled that 3 studies showed “no harmful effects” from cell phone use. However, a prominent cancer research institute warned their faculty and staff to limit their mobile phone use because of the possible cancer risks. Here’s what I think. I have heard that over use of virtually everything increases your susceptibility to cancer. Why should cell phones be any different. I do know this. Every time I set down my cell phone next to my old PC, the PC buzzes incessantly. This is caused by the electromagnetic radio waves of the cell phone. You can’t hear them or see them but they are there. That can’t be good for your brain long term. Lets be careful out there.
☞The new season of Mad Men has begun on Sunday nights on AMC and it is as good as ever. I rarely say that about a television show but there seems to be a ring of authenticity about the production that few television shows have. I recommend it to end your weekend.
☞I could be reading this completely wrong but the Patriots seem determined to avenge their Super Bowl loss that ruined last year’s perfect season. Say what you will about Bill Belichick but if there’s one thing he’s good at it’s focusing his team on the job at hand. Now, he has a carrot to dangle in front of their nose. They could be unstoppable this year.
